The 14th Meeting of the Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace (ABCP), a non-governmental international organisation on UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) roster was held at the Vietnam Buddhist University, Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam on 7-8 October 2023.
The 14th Meeting of the ABCP Executive Council was organised and hosted by the Vietnam ABCP National Center under the National Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.
The ABCP Executive Council 14th meeting was attended by Most Ven. Kh. Byambajav, Secretary General of ABCP, Bangladesh National Centre 1 – Bangladesh Boudha Kriti Prachar Sangha, ABCP Bangladesh National Center – 2, Cambodia ABCP National Center, Indian ABCP National Center, ABCP Korean National Center – Taego Order, Buddhist Fellowship Organisation of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Mongolia ABCP National Center One – Dashchoiling Monastery, ABCP Nepal National Center, Buddhist Traditional Sangha of Russia Ivolginsky Datsan – National Center 1, Aginsky Datsan ABCP National Center Two of Russia, Sri Lanka (Late Ven. Sumanatissa Chapter) National ABCP Center, Sri Lanka (Late Ven. Wipulasara Chapter) National ABCP Center, and the Vietnam National Buddhist Sangha National ABCP Center.
The ABCP Executive Council 14th meeting started with the chanting of Buddha’s name in Vietnamese and Pali, then a minute of silence was observed in memory of Prof. Dr. Bikiran Prasad Barua, Secretary General of Bangladesh Boudha Kristi Prachar Sangha – ABCP Bangladesh National Center One, who passed away on August 17, 2023.
H.E. Thich Thien Nhon, President of the National Vietnam Buddhist Sangha made welcome remarks, followed by brief opening remarks by ABCP Secretary General Most Ven. Kh. Byambajav. H.E. Thich Thien Nhon, the Patron of ABCP was declared a permanent patron of ABCP, after which the ABCP Headquarters and the National Vietnam Buddhist Sangha exchanged gifts.
The 14th ABCP Executive Council heard and discussed the activity report of the ABCP Headquarters, presented by Secretary General of ABCP, Most Ven. Kh. Byambajav.
Most Ven. Geshe Jangchub Choeden, Vice President of ABCP and the Indian ABCP National Center, in response to the report of the Secretary General of ABCP, expressed concern over the global situation, which is posing threat to peace and security the world over, and called on the Executive Council members to voice their concern over the existing global challenges and noted that ABCP should work harder for peace. In this connection, the Vietnam ABCP National Center and the Japan ABCP National Center shared draft resolutions on promoting peace and ending armed conflicts and violence in different parts of the world through peaceful talks and negotiations with due consideration of Buddha’s teachings on compassion, non-violence and respect for human values.
The ABCP Financial Report for the Fiscal Years 2020 to the first half of 2023 by was presented by Mr. Burenbayar Chanrav, ABCP HQ Senior Manager. He appealed to the member National Centers to make their membership contributions on time, upon which the activity and growth of the organisation depends a lot.
Pursuant to suggestions and proposals made, ABCP Executive Council Meeting took a decision as reflected in the Resolution of the 14th Executive Council Meeting.
Mr. Sonam Wangchuk, Secretary of the Indian ABCP National Center and Deputy Secretary General of ABCP briefed the participants in the meeting on the preparations for the next 12th General Assembly of ABCP. He indicated that the Indian ABCP National Center is planning to host the 12th General Assembly in New Delhi, India on 17-18 December, 2023.
The 14th Executive Council Meeting of the Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace concluded with the discussion and adoption of the Resolution, Communique of the 14th Meeting of the ABCP Executive Council and a Declaration of World Peace.
