A 45-minute TV program, joint collaboration of ABCP Headquarters with a Mongolian TV “Süld”, commemorating the 55th anniversary of the foundation of the Asian Buddhists Conference for Peace, was produced and broadcast on “Süld” TV channel, nation-wide in Mongolia, on Saturday, 20 September 2025.
The commemorative TV program, covers the political reason for the establishment of ABCP in 1970, the work done in the last 55 years and the future plans and goals of the Asian Buddhists Conference for Peace.
An “Initiative Group” Meeting was held in Ulaanbaatar on 5 December 1969 with representatives of Sri Lanka Buddhist Congress of Ceylon, Young Buddhist Council of Nepal, Mahabodhi Society of India, Buddhists of the USSR and Gandan Tegchenling Monastery of Mongolia, who agreed to establish an Asian Buddhist organisation to work for peace and security globally. The “Initiative Group,” as decided in December 1969, held a meeting of Asian Buddhists in Ulaanbaatar on 11-13 June 1970, where the Asian Buddhists Conference for Peace was officially established.
Since, over the past 55 years, ABCP, through its 20 National Centers in 14 Asian, Pacific countries – Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Central Tibetan Administration in Dharamsala, India, Japan, Democratic People’s republic of Korea, republic of Korea, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Mongolia, Nepal, Russia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam, has been working tirelessly to promote world peace and security through Buddha’s teachings on compassion, awakening and non-violence.
ABCP is on Roster and working for a consultative status with ECOSOC – the UN Economic and Social Council.
During the last more than half a century, ABCP has held 12 General Assemblies, which adopted the Charter of the organisation, the Preamble of which outlines the goals and mission of ABCP as follows: “The Asian Buddhists Conference for Peace is a voluntary international non-governmental organization of Buddhists with a common commitment to strengthening universal peace, unity, justice and human dignity, and protecting the environment and nature.”
The ABCP Headquarters, its President, Most Ven. Khansur Khambo, Gabju D. Choijamts and Secretary General, Most Ven. Da Lama Kh. Byambajav extend their congratulations to all the members of the National Centers of ABCP on the 55th anniversary of ABCP and call upon all National Centers to redouble their efforts to implements the goals and mission of the Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace. Sincere gratitude goes also to the Director and the staff of the “Suld” TV for the all-round support given to ABCP in the making of the commemorative TV program.
ABCP HQ plans to translate the program into English and post it on its website when the English version in ready.
