Mongolian Buddhists’ contribution to foreign policy

An International scientific conference “Mongolia’s foreign policy and Buddhism: Twentieth Century”, was jointly organized by the Center of Mongolian Buddhists – Gandan Tegchenling Monastery and the International Studies Institute of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences. It was held at the Gandan Tegchenling Monastery on 9 May 2024.

The conference was graced the Chief Khambo Lama of Gandan Tegchenling Monastery, Geshe D. Javzandorj, President of ABCP, Gabju D. Choijamts and Vice President of the Academy of Sciences, Prof. Ts. Tserendorj.

Ven. Kh. Byambajav, General Secretary of ABCP presented a paper entitled “Asian Buddhists Conference for Peace, The Present status, its activities and future plans”.

Scholar, researchers, historians from the International Studies Institute, Institute of History and Ethnography, Institute of Philosophy of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, the Mongolian National University, Gandan Tegchenling Monastery took part in the conference. It was also attended by Dr. Udo B. Barkmann, a scholar in Buddhism from Germany.

Many speakers in their paper noted the contribution of Mongolian Buddhists, especially, high-ranking Buddhist lamas to Mongolian foreign policy in the early 20th century and the contribution they continue to make even today after the democratic changes in the country in the 1990s.
