ABCP STANDING COMMISSIONS

The Charter of the Asian Buddhist Conference, in its Article 6.2 says that the organization shall have the following nine Standing Commissions:

1. Standing Commission on Buddhist Traditions, Culture and Heritage;
2. Standing Commission on Promotion of Buddhist Ethics and Unity;
3. Standing Commission on Human Rights;
4. Standing Commission on Sustainable Development Goals;
5. Standing Commission on Peace, Disarmament and Conflict Avoidance;
6. Standing Commission on Inter-Faith Harmony;
7. Standing Commission on Women and Gender Equality;
8. StandingCommission on Children and Youth;
9. Standing Commission on Environment,
   Climate Change and Nature Conservation.

   Article 6.1. of the ABCP Charter spells out the duties and responsibilities of the Standing Commission, which notes that “within the framework of the respective mandate responsible for the Standing Commission shall conduct research and analysis, and shall have the responsibility of submitting to the ABCP Headquarters in the form of recommendation the result of their work for reflection in the policy and actions of ABCP.”

   The following National Centers of ABCP are responsible for one each of the nine Standing Commissions to organize activities at the national, regional and international levels within the Standing Commissions.

   • Mongolia National Center I – Gandan Tegchenling Monastery – the Center of Mongolian Buddhists – Standing Commission on “Buddhist Traditions, Culture and Heritage
   • Central Tibetan Administration in Dharamsala, India – Standing Commission on Promotion of Buddhist Ethics and Unity
   • Bangladesh National Center II (Goutam Arindam Barua)  – Standing Commission on Human Rights
   • ABCP Indian National Center – Standing Commission on Sustainable Development Goals
   • Japan ABCP National Center – Standing Commission on Peace, Disarmament and Conflict Avoidance
   • Ivolginsky Datsan Russian National Center of ABCP – Standing Commission on Inter-Faith Harmony
   • Sri Lanka National Center (Which Center or both)- Standing Commission on Women and Gender Equality
   • ABCP National Centers of Sri Lanka and Vietnam (Whichones) – Standing Commission on Children and Youth
   • Vietnam National Center – Vietnam BuddhistUniversity – Standing Commission on Environment, Climate Change and Nature Conservation
